Objectives:

To report statistics relating to all Road Traffic Incidents (RTIs) reported to the police inGreat Britain in 2011.

Methodology:

Statistics are compiled from the STATS19 database of road traffic RTIs.

Key Findings

  • 0.7 per cent RTIs involving a car had “animal or object in carriageway” recorded as a contributory factor.

  • 2.8 per cent of RTIs involving a car had “exceeding the speed limit” recorded as a contributory factor.

  • 4.0 per cent of RTIs involving a car had “following too close” recorded as a contributory factor.

  • 4.1 per cent of RTIs involving a car had “sudden braking” recorded as a contributory factor.

  • 7.6 per cent of RTIs involving a car had “loss of control” recorded as a contributory factor.

  • 0.07 per cent of RTIs involving a car had “not displaying lights at night or in poor visibility” recorded as a contributory factor.
