‘Alternative wheelers’ are defined for the purpose of this synthesis as any vehicle type that is not covered by the other road safety research syntheses on the Observatory.
With regards to the available statistics relating to ‘alternative wheelers’:
In 2015, 'other vehicles' were involved in 43 fatal, 282 serious and 1,308 slight Road Traffic Incidents (RTIs). The ‘other vehicles’ code includes both motorised and non-motorised vehicles, including ridden horses, mobility scooters and trams, but excludes agricultural vehicles.
In 2015 there were 23 fatal, 116 serious and 365 slight RTIs involving agricultural vehicles on the public highway.
